This refreshing apple pie granita, made with Gala apples, captures all the cozy flavors of your favorite fall dessert in an icy, spoonable treat. It's a simple and nostalgic way to cool down, perfect for summer. A dollop of homemade vanilla whipped cream adds a blend of creaminess that perfectly balances the spiced and cool apple granita.

Ingredients

    • 2 Gala apples
    • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
    • 1 tsp cinnamon
    • 1 cup water
    • 6 oz. heavy whipping cream
    • 3 Tbsp powdered sugar
    • ½ tsp vanilla extract
    • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon


      Directions

        1. Chop apples into small pieces.
        2. Add apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and water to a saucepan.
        3. Heat over medium for about 20 minutes, until the sugar is dissolved and the apples are soft.
        4. Let the mixture cool, then blend until smooth.
        5. Pour the apple mixture into an 8 x 8 in. pan and place in the freezer.
        6. Freeze for at least 2 hours, until frozen solid, then use a fork to scrape the mixture into icy flakes.
        7. Return to the freezer for another 2 hours, scrape again, and freeze until ready to serve.
        8. In a medium bowl, whisk the heavy cream, powdered sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until stiff peaks form.
        9. Scoop the granita into bowls and top with a dollop of whipped cream.
        10. Finish with a sprinkle of cinnamon and enjoy!
