An Expert's Favorite Apple & Toast Combinations

by Yes! Apples Ambassador Brittany Arnett, creator of toastedtable.com and @toastedtable.

As my name suggests, I am in love with toast. The key to a perfect toast requires the right balance of creamy, crunchy, and hearty—and even a blend of sweet, savory, and spicy. Yes! Apples varieties help me achieve just that, thanks to their unique flavor profiles that play on tangy, sweet, and crisp. Below are a few of my favorite apple toast combinations using Yes! Apples' unique apples:

SweeTango® Apple with Gruyere Cheese, Avocado, & Honey on Multigrain Bread

The SweeTango® apple is the perfect balance of sweet and tart, making it pair nicely with a sharp cheese like gruyere. Adding a neutral base like avocado helps pay more attention to the punchy flavors of apples and cheese, and topping it off with honey brings it all together with a sweet touch.

To Make: Top toasted multigrain bread with ½ of a large avocado, mashed. Layer thin slices of SweeTango® apples, grated or slivered gruyere cheese, and a hefty drizzle of honey on top.

Pink Lady Apple with Goat Cheese, Caramelized Onions, and Balsamic Glaze on Sourdough Bread

Pink Lady apples lean towards the tart side, which makes them perfect for savory dishes like salads or sandwiches (or toasts, of course!). The earthiness of goat cheese with the sweet and savory onions and balsamic are great accompaniments to this toast.

To Make: Spread goat cheese over toasted sourdough bread, then top with thinly sliced Pink Lady apples, caramelized onions, and finish with a drizzle of balsamic glaze.

Gala Apple with Nut Butter, Crushed Pistachios, Cinnamon, and Honey on Sourdough

As a Middle Eastern, I love anything baklava—and this Gala apple toast combination is a nod to the sweet treat. You can use any nut butter here (I recommend almond, walnut, or mixed nut butters), and the additions of pistachios, cinnamon, and honey will elevate the flavors for a healthy version of baklava.

To Make: Spread nut butter over toasted sourdough bread, then top with thinly sliced Gala apples, crushed pistachios, a dash of cinnamon, and a drizzle of honey.
