Iced Apple Crisp Macchiato

Iced Apple Crisp Macchiato
This Starbucks-inspired treat is the perfect September drink. It might still be hot outside (hence the ice), but you're pining after crisp Fall mornings!

Best For: Sipping
Prep Time: 5-10 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Serves: 1

Ingredients

Apple Simple Syrup
    • 1 apple, diced (we like a sweeter apple, like Ambrosia, Fuji, or Gala)
    • ¾ cup water
    • ¼ cup apple juice
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • ¼ tsp apple pie spice
    • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon

Spiced Apple Drizzle

    • 2 cups apple juice
    • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
    • ¼ tsp apple pie spice

Macchiato

    • 2 shots of espresso
    • ¾ cup milk of choice
    • 1 Tbsp apple syrup (adjust to taste)
    • 1 Tbsp spiced apple drizzle (adjust to taste)

    Directions

    Apple Simple Syrup
      1. In a medium saucepan, combine apples, water, apple juice, brown sugar, and spices. Simmer over medium-low heat for 15-20 minutes, until sugar is dissolved and apples break down. Make sure the mixture doesn't boil as it will burn.
      2. Cool to room temperature then strain. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 month. Bonus: use leftover syrup for a cocktail or mocktail!

    Spiced Apple Drizzle

      1. Add apple juice, brown sugar, and apple pie spice to a small saucepan. Heat over medium until mixture reaches a boil, then lower to a simmer. Cook until the liquid has reduced by at least half.
      2. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. The drizzle will thicken as it cools.

    Assembly

      1. Brew 2 shots of your favorite espresso.
      2. In a 16 oz. glass, add a handful of ice, 1 Tbsp apple syrup (more or less, depending on how sweet you like it), and milk of choice. Stir to combine.
      3. Pour espresso over milk, then top with spiced apple drizzle. Stir before drinking.
